The amount of sand in 1 lb. varies a little from color to color because of the weight of the different colorants. You can count on each pound containing approx. 1-1/2 cups of sand. You should measure the capacity of your container in cups and then divide the total by 1.5 to how many pounds you need.
If you are filling a large area such as a sand box, you can use the converter at Online Conversion to find out how much sand you'll need. First you'll need to figure out how many cubic inches you want to fill. To do this multiply the width in inches by the length in inches by the height in inches.
Example - you have an 8' x 8' x 5" sandbox. You'll multiply 96x96x5 = 46,080 cubic inches. Then using the online converter enter 46,080 and select "cubic inch" in the left column and "cups(US)" in the right column and click "convert". This will show you need 3,191 cups of sand to fill the sand box. Since our sand contains approx. 1-1/2 cups per lb., you'll divide 3,191 by 1.5 = 2,127 pounds of sand.
We view our colors on 3 different monitors, all of which vary one to the other. On 2 monitors they appear a little darker than they actually are, and some times a little more blue or green, and on the other monitor they appear very close, and some are right on. So the answer is: It depends on the monitor. Click on the "view larger image" for a larger view of each color. If you need a close match, please take advantage of our samples so you can make an accurate comparison before ordering larger quantities. At this time we have matched most of the David Bridal colors, and some Alfred Angelo and Mori Lee. Each color listing indicates whether or not it matches a designer color.
We match our sand to satin, nylon or knit fabric, depending on the designer sample fabric. We do not match to taffeta. We currently have all swatches for David's Bridal, Alfred Angelo and Mori Lee. Fluorescent lighting can change the appearance of color, so we match the sand to the fabric using daylight shade. Because of the complexity of some of our color blends, some variance in color from one batch to the next batch of sand is normal. Please expect the sand to vary a degree or 2 in color shade, depending on the dye batch and sand batch.
All sand is offered in a sample size. The sample bag contains approx. 1 Tbls. of sand. This is the most cost-saving way for you to see the sand before purchasing larger quantities. Our samples are sent via USPS mail, so the mailing cost is minimal to you. Each sample is charged .75 each for mailing, and we reduce the handling fee to .50 for sample orders. You can start with samples here.
We process 99.9% of sand and vase set orders within 24 hours. Please use the UPS chart for an estimate of the number of business days your order will take to get to you. Remember the day your order is shipped does not count, as well as Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. Don't cut it too close! It's a rare situation, but occasionally UPS delays delivery, loses, mis-delivers or damages a package. If this were to happen the day before your wedding, you'll incur a great expense to reship your package for next day delivery. If your wedding is less than 2 weeks away, we suggest upgrading your shipping method to 3-day Select at the very least.
We can customize colors for you with a 200-lb. minimum order per color. We must have a sample in our hands to match. We will not match colors from a computer screen or print. We must have an actual article you want to match.
We have retail stores who carry our sand listed at Retail Sand Locations. Stores are not required to carry all of our color selection, so if you don't find the color you're looking for, ask the retailer for the color. They might be able to add it to their next order for you.
